Karen specialises in all areas of family law including:
Representing a mother in heavily contested divorce proceedings and financial matters as well as contested children proceedings. The father acted in person and took every opportunity to delay matters and refused to engage fully in the process. This led to numerous difficulties in progressing the matter and financial strains to the mother and children. The bad behaviour on the party of the husband was taken into account by the court as it was so extreme and this resulted in the mother being awarded almost all the proceeds from the sale of the matrimonial home so that she and the children could be housed without need to revert to the father for assistance in the future. Numerous costs orders were also obtained against the husband.
Representing a father in highly acrimonious children act proceedings where he was accused of sexual abuse by the mother of their 6-year-old daughter. The mother was not keen for contact to be maintained with the father during proceedings, but we were able to ensure this remained in place with adequate safeguards to protect the child. After obtaining various expert reports and statements from healthcare professionals as well as information from the child we were able to prove that no abuse had taken place and the allegations were unfounded which resulted in a huge relief for the father as he was able to clear his name and go back to enjoying a normal relationship with his daughter.
Representing a wife in the UK who had not seen her husband for over 20 years despite them having children together. Using contacts, we were able to locate the husband in Trinidad and with the assistance of international contacts he was able to be served divorce and financial proceedings. The Husband sought to claim a large share of the assets here in the UK by virtue of the fact he was married to our client. He had legal title to assets but had not financially contributed for over 15 years. We successfully obtained an order to transfer the family home to our client and she was able to retain all her savings and investments and her pension much to the disappointment of her estranged husband.
Representing a mother who, after separating from her husband in the UK, wished to leave the UK and return to Germany with her young children. The mother only came to the UK to support her husband (he was British) so that he could further his career. She had no family to support her in London and after the breakdown of the marriage wished to return to Germany with the children as this was in their best interests. The father initially objected to such a move but we were able to produce sufficient evidence to the court to show what his relationship and contact with the children would be maintained if she were to be granted permission by the court to take the children to Germany permanently and ultimately the court were satisfied with her plans and she was granted permission to leave the UK with them.

Representing a father who wished to relocate from London to Wales with his disabled child which would result in a change of residence of the child. The current arrangement meant a shared residence agreement would be altered so that shared cared would not be possible in it’s pervious agreed terms.
Representing a mother who wished to return to Australia with her three young children after separating from her husband (their father). Initially the application to court was opposed by the father but after providing overwhelming evidence to illustrate that the move would be in the children’s best interests their father agreed to allow the move to take place.
Representing a father who was accused of sexual abuse of his young daughter by his ex-partner. This was a complicated case as involved a fairly young child. By working with all the relevant safeguarding bodies supervised contact was able to take place whilst a full investigation by the Police and the family courts took place. Ultimately our client was found to be innocent as the child had made up the allegations and admitted this after a lengthy period of time. Once our client as found innocent we were able to reintroduce direct contact between him and his daughter.
