Pinney Talfourd is delighted to announce that Partner Matthew Edwards has been re-appointed to the prestigious Panel of Professional Deputies, continuing the appointment he first received in 2015.
A Panel Deputy is a specialist professional person appointed by the Court of Protection to support people who lack the mental capacity to independently manage their property and financial affairs. This may be due to a mental illness, brain injury or other condition.
These clients may have been victim of serious financial abuse and require help to restore their estate, or their financial affairs are particularly complex and require management by a specialist professional person. In some circumstances a Panel Deputy will also need to make decisions that affect a person’s health or general welfare.
Since first joining the Panel in 2015, Matthew has accepted hundreds of appointments from the Court of Protection to represent vulnerable clients in relation to decisions affecting their property and finances. His re-appointment to the Panel followed a nationwide selection process carried out by the Office of the Public Guardian where existing Panel Members and prospective new members were invited to apply.
Matthew also regularly acts for vulnerable clients who have been referred to him by Local Authorities, Lawyers, other professionals and private individuals.
Matthew commented: “This prestigious appointment is a deserved recognition of the dedication and expertise of the Court of Protection team at Pinney Talfourd. I’m pleased that this appointment will enable us to continue to support some of the most vulnerable people in society.”
