Sickness issues
There are different circumstances which may result in you either being off sick from work intermittently or for a long term period. If may be that your employer is the direct cause of you being absent from work (stress) or it may be due to completely unrelated reasons why you are unable to attend the workplace and perform your role.
It is important to remember that, regardless of the reason you are absent from the workplace on sick leave, you are entitled to certain protections including holiday entitlement and pay.
It is dependent on contractual benefits as to whether you will be paid statutory sick pay ("SSP") which is currently £79.15 per week or continue on a percentage of or full salary.
It may be that your condition falls within the meaning of a Disability in accordance with the Disability Discrimination Act 2005 and if so you will be entitled to further protection should your employer be in breach of your employment rights.
