Children

All parents face difficult decisions about their children when they separate or divorce.

Often one parent will want to ensure the children live with them and will want to have residence orders (custody) put in place. Sometimes parents cannot agree how often the children should see each parent and contact orders need to be put in place to regulate the arrangements.

Sometimes an unmarried father will not have parental responsibility for his children even though he is the biological father and a Parental Responsibility Agreement or Order will be necessary.

If parents cannot agree on children's names, medical treatment for children or schooling then the Court can decide these issues if necessary.

If one parent wishes to move abroad and the other does not consent then again the Court can decide what is in the child's best interests.
