Defamation Advice for Businesses

Defamation is when someone says, writes, broadcasts or communicates in another way, something that makes people think badly of you or your business, damaging your reputation and feelings.

There are two types of defamation:

Libel - which covers 'permanent' publications such as written allegations, or allegations broadcast on the television, radio or on a website.

Slander - which covers spoken words or gestures.

Sometimes it is necessary to obtain an Order from the Court even before a claim has been issued, to prevent a damaging publication or broadcast being made.

A Court can award compensation for the harm done and can make an injunction preventing publication of the same or similar allegations in the future.
