Matthew Edwards
Matthew is an Associate Solicitor and Head of our Private Client Team.
Matthew graduated from the University of East London where he read Law. After successfully completing a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice at Anglia Ruskin University he was admitted as a solicitor in 2004 and worked in private practice with a leading Essex firm for 5 years before joining us in 2009.
Matthew deals with all aspects of Private Client work including Wills, Trusts, Personal Taxation issues, Estate Administration, Elderly Client issues and Court of Protection work. He has represented clients in the Court of Protection on a number of issues including Statutory Wills and Inheritance Tax planning schemes, as well as dealing with Lasting Powers of Attorney and Deputyship Applications.
Matthew has extensive experience dealing with estate administration, and is able to deal with a range of matters, including claims to the Capital Taxes Office for Business or Agricultural Property Relief, Intestacies and Missing Beneficiaries, Estates that include Foreign Assets, and the resealing of Foreign Grants. He also has expertise in more complex Will drafting and advises company directors and members of partnerships about the appropriate structure of their Wills and Cross Option Agreements. He also advises in the context of asset protection through Wills, including couples entering into second marriages, those with children who are currently divorcing or bankrupt, and the appropriate use of trusts to minimise liability to care home fees.
Matthew is a member of STEP, the Society for Trusts and Estate Practitioners, a kite mark of excellence for Private Client lawyers.
