Pinney Talfourd LLP Display Their Go Karting Skills For Charity

The Partners and Solicitors of Pinney Talfourd LLP took part in a charity go karting event last month to help raise money for charity at Raceway Brentwood. This event was organised by Simpson Wreford & Co, Chartered Accountants in conjunction with The Grand Charity Ball. After a long hard day at work, what better way to spend a Wednesday evening than a 2.5 hour le-mans style race at the 825m international circuit in Brentwood. Philip Cockram, Stephen Green, Nicola Healy, Sarah Tsindides and Alex Pearce agreed and took on this challenge on April.

After discovering that Pinney Talfourd had been allocated kart number '13' they took their positions. The qualifying event began and the Managing Partner, Philip Cockram had the honor of the last five laps of the qualifying event, finishing just half way down the grid. Not a bad start for a team of lawyers!

The main event was a harder task and with some illicit overtaking and late braking moves Stephen Green, from our Personal Injury department, took a few hard knocks on his first session. Undeterred, the team continued to push on into the top three but mistakes began to show. As the evening wore on more flags came out and competition intensified.

A number of the team got caught up in a spin and found themselves facing the wrong way with other go karts flying past at 45 miles per hour. But with some quick pit stops, some grit and determination the team started to slowly move themselves up the leader board Then, an unfortunate pit stop and a crash at the pit walls dropped the team down the leader board, as lucky go kart number 13 sat in the pits waiting for the exit to be cleared whilst other karts flew past. Once back on the track it was too late and down in 7th position the team struggled to come back.

In a close and hard fought last 15 minutes, the team closed down on 6th place but eventually crossed the line in a respectable 7th place. Simpson Wreford & Co won 1st place and will be presenting The S.A.M. Fund with £603 at The Grand Charity Ball in July.

After all those hours racing you start to appreciate how poor Mario must feel in the popular Mario Kart game. But it was all good fun and discussions have already turned to winning a top 3 place next year!
